In recent years the Jeep Wrangler has been growing in sales year after year. It remains one of the most popular vehicles on the road. We nearly transport one of these vehicles on our car haulers each week. It is the most popular vehicle we see on our auto shippers. Chevrolet has noticed this as well. In 2008 Chevrolet had a concept model called Hummer HX that debuted at the International Auto Show in Detroit. It was going to battle the Jeep Wrangler head to head. It never came to fruition because of that little thing called The Great Recession.
Now, however, the Hummer might be brought back. The Hummer H4 has been popping up recently and there has been a buzz in the auto industry about Hummer coming back. With gas prices lower now then they have been in 10 years the idea of beefier SUV’s and Hummer-type vehicles are coming back. Recently Chevrolet has shown off the Chevy Colorado ZR2 which is an off-road truck. They are testing the waters to see if the general public would like more off-road vehicles. If so, Chevrolet will continue to build more momentum with more models and bringing back the Hummer brand.
Jeep is already on the ball to make their best selling Wrangler better. They are possibly going to have a full aluminum body to help give better fuel economy and give a turbo engine to have a lesser engine with better fuel economy, but with the same pep in its step.
So, who is going to win this off-road battle? Does Fiat’s Jeep or Detroit’s Chevrolet take the gold at the end of the day? What are your thoughts?
