Auto Makers like to show off their sales figures at the start of a new month for the previous month to try and claim to be the best selling company. In June the best auto maker was Nissan with a 13% increase in sales in comparison to last years numbers. That wasn’t the biggest news though. Fiat Chrysler sales rose 8% from the same time period last year while Ford Motor Company only had a 2% increase. It is the very first month Chrysler has ever sold more vehicles that Ford in history.
The numbers in the sales figures do not include corporate fleet vehicle sales, in which case Ford would win. This is sort of monumental for Fiat Chrysler because it means they are moving in the right direction and getting stronger each month. The Jeep brand had a HUGE June by increasing 25% more sales in June 2015 than in June 2014. The biggest jump in numbers from Jeep came from the Jeep Cherokee model which had a jump of 39% in sales. Jeep has always been a strong seller for Chrysler, but Jeep has really been pulling its weight and the weigh of others as well. The next Chrysler jump came from the Chrysler 200 which had a sales increase of 153% from last year in June. They sold over 18,500 vehicles in June 2015. That is a pretty astonishing feat for any auto company.
After checking our numbers we actually transported had Fiat Chrysler vehicles on our hauler 1 out of every 5 we transported in June. Twenty percent of the vehicles we transport to another state were a Chrysler made vehicle. That is a big deal. People are liking and buying Chrysler vehicles. Being from Michigan originally I take a little ride in that because it is a member of the Big 3.
Ford is going to be releasing a new Ford Focus RS for 2016, but not too much will be changing for Ford in the 2016 model year. Maybe Ford will have to strategically think of a plan to combat Chrysler. What are they going to do to market to that demographic. The smart thing would be to steer Jeep people to one of their trucks or one of their crossover SUV’s. Either way, they have to do something if they want to beat on Chrysler and be back on top of the Big 3 selling war.
